When a step's element isn't on the page
What a tour does when it can't find what a step points at, and how to find and fix the step.
A tooltip needs its element on the page. If the element is late, the step waits up to 3 seconds for it. If it still isn't there, the tour does what you chose under If an element isn't on the page:
- Skip that step: the default. The tour goes on to the next step.
- Show the step in the centre of the page, as a pop-up.
- End the tour.
Finding the step to fix
Every time a step's element is missing for someone, it is counted. When that happened in the last 7 days, the tour's editor marks the step with This element wasn't on the page for some visitors and a Pick it again link, which opens the builder on that step.
Common causes:
- The element is on another page. Send the previous step there with Go to a page.
- The element only appears after something opens, such as a menu or a drawer. Open it with Run an in-app action on the previous step, or let people open it themselves with Click this element.
- Your app's layout changed and the selector no longer matches. Pick the element again, or give it a
data-usersignal-targetattribute so it keeps matching.
